WHITE RIM TRIP 15-19 SEP 2004

7th Annual White Rim Trip this year is 15-19 Sept 04. This multi-day trip is designed for mountain bikers in the BBTC and non-club riders to be able to have a fully supported ride into the vastness of Canyonlands for a small fee. The ride is around White Rim Trail covering 110 miles in four days and three nights on the 4WD trail with sag support. There are no services along this route. The route’s highest elevation 6,000ft and is along the Island in the Sky road atop the Shafer Trail switchbacks. The trail dips to 3,900ft as it parallels the Green River and the Colorado River. Over the course of the trip, expect to lose and regain approximately 3,000ft. The sheer vastness is breath taking. Repeat riders conclude that this trip is a positive mental adjustment and is necessary yearly.

This year we will be traveling counterclockwise from Sky Visitor Center to Mineral Bottom along the Green River. A side trip to see Zeus & Moses monuments is a must. The first night campground is at Hardscrabble along the Green River. The second day has side hikes to Fort Bottom along the Green River and Indian Ruins. The second night we will be camping at Murphy Hogback with a spectacular view. The shooting stars are abundant at night. Each day the ride is around 25 miles so there is time to site see.

The Canyonlands National Park campground reservations have been made. It is for 15 people & two 4WD support vehicles to travel around White Rim Trail. These campgrounds have concrete bottom/fiberglass top restrooms. Each campground is limited and controlled by the National Parks. We take only 13 riders.

We will leave Layton area around 6PM Wednesday to travel through SLC & Provo areas for picking up riders then down to Canylonland area. You will need to carry only water, sunscreen and possible camera on your mountain bike. The 4WDs will carry your tent, food, water and supplies while on the trail. We have two-way radios to keep track of all riders. We will prepare your food and this is an eating event. Your fee to the BBTC will get you transportation to and from the Odgen-SLC-Provo area to the Canyonlands National Park, National Park fees, gas, vehicle rentals, water and meals on the trail.

This year the trip cost to members is $200 and for non-members is $225. I will take reservations 1 April 04 by mail. The reservations will be a non-refundable $25 deposit with name, address, phone and e-mail. It will be BBTC members first until 1 May 04. Non-members still should send in 1 April 04 as well to hold a spot. The deposit is held only for the first 13 riders. The riders will be notified mid May with an agenda and a equipment to bring list. A backup waiting list will be developed from the reservations sent in. Beware this annual trip fills up quickly. The fee balance is due 16 August 04.
